The ThicknessPen provides portable, non-destructive, accurate thickness measurement of non-ferrous materials, regardless of size or shape.  This rugged device, with its innovative, patent pending dual-measurement mode capability, is ideal for measurement in the laboratory or on the plant floor.  The ThicknessPen utilizes both capacitance and magnetic measurement technologies – for use with or without a target ball, giving the user the versatility in using the appropriate mode based on the application.

Two modes of operation

Magnetic

With the magnetic mode, a magnetic target ball is used during measurements, offering a level of precision equal to – or exceeding – traditional hall-effect devices but with greater simplicity and reliability. Unlike traditional devices, the ThicknessPen utilizes a low-strength, single magnetic ball for measurements over its full range up to 8 mm. This simplifies use, eliminates confusion over the size and type of ball to use and, because of the low-strength magnet, eliminates the concerns associated with probes that use strong magnetic fields while offering a robust, easy to operate measurement tool.  Used in combination with the docking station and foot switch, this device is well suited for the laboratory or an in-plant measurement station. Typical applications include the measurement of light weight plastic, glass, and aluminum containers, plastic preforms, non-ferrous parts and components and intricate measurements that require pin-point precision.

Capacitance

The capacitance mode provides the means to perform single-sided measurement without the need for a target ball with equivalent accuracy on materials up to 5 mm. This mode is ideal for at-the-line or measurements or in the field, where portability is desired and the risk of product contamination by a target ball is a concern. The capacitance mode of the ThicknessPen offers a quick, high-precision, “touch- and-go” measurement approach. Typical applications include measurement of glass and plastic containers, plastic components on the production line, large containers, sheet material and large shaped parts where the use of a target ball is not practical.
